EAST INDIAN MUSIC and ARTS

In this blog I would like to promote East Indian or Mobai's Indigenous People, musicians and artists, basically the creative personalities within our community.

I would like to encourage all East Indians / Indigenous People of Mobai to order music and services from the artists mentioned herein. When you purchase a CD or even hire their services, you will be encouraging them and they in turn will get a boost to churn out more from their cultural warehouse.

Personality:
1. Mr. A.R. Dhakul.

This gentleman has been in the music industry for many years.  Mr. Dhakul is originally from Pali Village and now settled in Vile Parle.  He has composed East Indian Music for Wedding ceremonies like the Umbracha Pani [A ceremony where the 7 wells are visited and water drawn from it is carried around with song and dance. The purpose of this ritual is to spread life as a metaphor in the Umbracha Pani. The 'bride to be' throws full coconuts all around her path while heading toward the wells and also on the way home. The Coconut is likened to the human spirit. The life of a coconut tree is 100 years just like the life of man. Since the bride to be is about to get married and will have children, the Umbracha Pani is meant to ceremoniously spread life and cheer to all witness. The bronze water vessel [Handa] has umber leaves [fig tree whose fruit cant be eaten since the insects eat them before anyone]. The leaves form a lid to the vessel and a coconut is placed in it. Many people say this is a hindu ritual, but none of the Hindus practice this ritual since its purely Indigenous and dates prior to the Aryan invasion who brought in Hinduism to India.] The Hindus have placed the Umber tree in their sacred texts and have claimed the top of the tree as Lord Dattaray's resting place. Hence this tree is a sacred tree. But for the rest, convenience is the norm and cut these sacred trees to make way for roads and buildings. One of my books will reveal more information on our culture and heritage. Its a work in progress.

Email me on lukemendes@gmail.com to buy the assorted Music from AR. Dhakul.

Mr. Dhakul also has composed the Christi Puran and assures us it has been handed down since generations. Only difference is that the Christi Puran chant has a slight melody change but preserving the New Testament as it was in History. The message of Christ in our ancient tongue of KOKNI [not konkani and not Marathi] as it was ordained to be.
